Genomics in Scleroderma Project

Research Question: What role does genetics play in scleroderma?
Significance Aims
  • There is no single genetic mutation that accounts for cases of scleroderma
  • Many patients with scleroderma have a family history of scleroderma or other autoimmune disease
  • Certain ethnic groups (e.g., African Americans) have worse clinical outcomes from scleroderma
  • To collaborate with the NIH led GRASP (Genome Research in African American Scleroderma Patients) Study
  • To identify genetic predictors of organ involvement and disease progression
  • To identify biomarkers associated with worse outcomes
